Man, 55, Allegedly Dies As Result Of Fight During July 4 Block Party In Santa Ana

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com)  —  Homicide detectives in Santa Ana are investigating the death of a 55-year-old man who may have died as a result of a fight during a July 4th block party.

Officers responded to 2500 Block of North Linwood Avenue at around 9:40 p.m.  and found the unidentified victim unresponsive  in the street.

When officers arrived they found OCFA personnel performing CPR on the victim.

The man was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident.

A preliminary investigation found that a fight occurred during a large block party. The deceased was a participant in the fight. It is unclear if the male sustained a head injury from an assault or died from a medical condition.

Late Sunday, the Orange County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as William Branch III of Santa Ana.

Branch's cause of death will be determined pending an autopsy.

All parties in the altercation have been identified and questioned, authorities said. There are no outstanding suspects.
