6 Hospitalized After Mysterious Odor Hits Mira Loma Area

MIRA LOMA (CBSLA.com) — Six residents were transferred to a hospital after a mysterious odor left them feeling ill, according to Riverside County Fire officials.

Firefighters began receiving reports of the unusual odor at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night at the 5200 block of Marlatt Street, near Jurupa Road, in Mira Loma.

Five people from one home and a neighbor were taken to a local hospital with "minor injuries", said April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Two other neighbors who also felt ill refused to go to the hospital.

RCFD's Hazardous Materials Team was called to investigate the source of the odor, setting up an incident command post at Etiwanda Ave. and Jurupa Rd.

Despite initial readings from the team's air monitors, the odor dissipated during the night. The department says the source and nature of the odor remains unknown.
