Cal State Fullerton Scores 6 In Third Inning To Top Pepperdine, 9-3

FULLERTON (AP) — Cal State Fullerton scored six runs in the third inning and cruised to a 9-3 victory over Pepperdine on Friday night in the opening round of the Fullerton Regional.

Trailing 2-1, Fullerton sent 12 batters to the plate in the third and scored six runs on just one hit. Three Pepperdine pitchers combined to walk five and hit three batters, and the Waves committed two errors.

Miles Chambers (5-3) threw 2 1/3 hitless relief innings for Fullerton (35-22). Pepperdine starter Jackson McClelland (6-4) gave up seven runs — just one earned — in 2 1/3 innings.

The Titans took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Jerrod Bravo. Aaron Barnett and Brandon Caruso had RBI singles in the third to give Pepperdine (30-28) a short-lived 2-1 lead.

The Titans take on Arizona State on Saturday night, while Pepperdine will play Clemson in an elimination game.
