Armed Suspect Injured In Officer-Involved Shooting In Westlake District

WESTLAKE DISTRICT (CBSLA.com) — A suspect was recovering Wednesday after being shot by a Los Angeles Police Department officer in the Westlake District.

Two officers were on patrol around 10:10 p.m. Tuesday near 6th and Coronado streets when they were flagged down by two men who said a suspect and another man had pointed a gun at them.

The officers attempted to make contact with the two suspects, according to LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado.

"One of the suspects tried to get away, but then complied to the commands. The other suspect turned around and appeared he was making overt moves to go to his gun. At that point, what we do know, is that an officer-involved shooting occurred," Preciado said.

The suspect was struck in the abdomen and was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

The second suspect was taken into custody.

The father of one of the initial men who contacted police said he was also hospitalized for a short time after suffering a graze wound. Details surrounding that injury were unclear.

No officers were injured in the incident.

An investigation was ongoing.
