LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man’s body was found burning early Monday morning on a sidewalk in South Los Angeles.

Officials received a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. about a report of a trash fire in the 5700 block of S. Fortuna Street.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they located the burning body.

“The body just laying down with the hands up, both legs were gone already,” witness Carlos Castillo said.

The identity of the victim was unknown as the body was so badly burned.

“We don’t know if it happened here or if it happened somewhere else or if we have any other crimes involved,” Capt. Jorge Rodriguez said.

Fortuna Street was closed for seven hours during the investigation.
