$20K Reward Offered For Information In Murder Of Former Compton High Football Star

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A reward of $20,000 is being offered for information in the murder of a former star football player at Compton High School.

Iyshun Dionte Tornero Bennett, 23, was with friends and family at a birthday barbecue party on April 16, 2013 in the 1700 block of West 151st Street in Compton when gunshots rang out. Bennett, along with a 15-year-old boy and a 39-year-old man, were hit, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The 39-year-old man was not fatally injured, while the boy sustained significant injuries to his intestines. Bennett, who was preparing to pursue a career as an X-Ray technician, was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he died from his injuries while in surgery.

Authorities say no one attending the party had any gang ties.

Both the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the City of Compton have each approved rewards of $10,000, for a total of $20,000, leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder of Bennett.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
