Coastal Commission Staff Supports Edge's Development Plan

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Edge appears to be edging closer to approval for his long-delayed proposal to build five luxury homes near a ridge overlooking Malibu.

The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that California Coastal Commission staffers are recommending the 12-member commission itself approve revised plans for the development.

Commissioners are scheduled to take up the matter Thursday.

Edge, whose real name is David Evans, has been trying to get the project approved since 2006. He plans to live in one of the homes.

The U2 guitarist has revised the project over the years, making it smaller, moving it below a ridge and offering to set aside land for public access and conservation.

Opponents say it will still bring too much noise and traffic, spoil majestic views and possibly destabilize a hillside.
