FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A man suspected of lying in wait to attack his estranged wife in the head is in custody Friday on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and rape, police said.
Luis Javier Cervantes, 24, was taken into custody Thursday at about 6:45 p.m. after he was found at a mobile home at 2616 W. Orangethorpe in Fullerton. He is being held on $1 million bail.
Police say Cervantes attacked his wife early Wednesday morning after they argued about their marriage. Cervantes is suspect of sexually assaulting his wife, then stabbing her in the head before fleeing the home in her vehicle.
The victim told police Cervantes told her he wanted to commit “suicide by cop” and there were indications he had access to weapons, officials said.
The victim’s vehicle was found abandoned in the city of Anaheim at about 7 a.m. Thursday, but detectives didn’t find him in the area. They later developed information that he was hiding in a location in the city of Fullerton, police said.
Cervantes’ name was reported Thursday by police as Javier Luis Cervantes.
