State Water Board Lowers Cutback Requirement For LA
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Water customers in Los Angeles will still be required to cut back their usage, but the target was lowered by the State Water Board on Saturday.
The mandatory cutbacks were adjusted to avoid penalizing customers who have already reduced per capita usage during the drought, while other areas, including Malibu and Beverly Hills, actually saw an increase in the amount of water they will be required to save.
According to the adjustments, districts and cities where average water use is above 215 gallons per person per day will have to cut their consumption by 36 percent, up just a bit from 35 percent. Meanwhile, the reduction for Los Angeles and its Department of Water and Power customers was cut to 16 percent, down from 20 percent. A similar reprieve was given to San Diego.
