Former Border Patrol Agent Who Carried On Sexual Relationship With 13-Year-Old Girl Sentenced

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com)   — Authorities said a former U.S. Border Patrol agent who carried on a sexual liaison with a 13-year-old Jurupa Valley girl was sentenced Friday to three years in state prison.

Alejandro Covarrubias Dominguez, 34, pleaded guilty on April 3 to two counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 years old.

In a plea deal, the Riverside County District Attorney's Office dropped two counts of communicating with a child with the intent to commit a sexual offense, as well as one count of oral copulation of a minor and a misdemeanor charge of possession of child pornography, in exchange of  Dominguez admission of guilt.

Superior Court Judge Charles Koosed ordered that Dominguez register as a convicted sex offender, limiting where and under what conditions he will be able to work after he gets out of prison.

The defendant was arrested in Tucson, Arizona, last November and returned to Riverside County a month later.

He resigned from the Border Patrol in October and moved out of state, according to sheriff's investigators.

Dominguez and the unidentified victim first met at a birthday party for a mutual acquaintance more than two years ago.

Soon afterward, he and the girl began communicating regularly via Facebook where they exchanged nude pictures. Dominguez and the teenager had sexual encounters on at least two occasions, according to court papers.

The teen's mother discovered the activity and contacted officials last August.
