Goose With Arrow Through Its Neck Spotted In Anaheim Hills

ANAHEIM HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A goose with one very peculiar identifying feature is on the loose in Anaheim Hills, according to authorities.

Since last Tuesday, an Egyptian goose with an arrow piercing its neck has been spotted near a car wash close to the 91 Freeway, according to Orange County Animal Care spokeswoman Katie Ingram.

"I guess this is his area, because he's always around here,"car wash employee Juan Escovedo said. "We were trying to catch him to help, but it's hard because as soon as you get close to it, it flies."

Officials have responded at least four times since last week to try and capture the goose, which appears to still be active and healthy and flies away at any attempts to capture it, Ingram said.

Despite the piercing, the arrow doesn't appear to have hit any of the goose's vital organs, said Ingram.

"(The arrow) is lodged in his neck, but it looks like in the fatty tissue behind the neck," Orange County Animal Control Sgt. Kyle Werner said.

Upon its capture, officials plan to send the goose to a wildlife rehabilitation facility until it becomes well enough to release again, according to Ingram.

It remains unclear who shot the arrow, but it is possible that person may face multiple charges.

"They should be caught and incarcerated for it," Chino Hills resident Heather Grant said. "Animal abuse is disgusting."

The public is asked not to approach the goose in order to avoid scaring it away, and instead any one in contact with the goose is asked to notify O.C. Animal Care at 714-935-6848.

"We don't want to injure the goose any further, so we're going to be very careful about how we capture the goose, without disturbing the arrow because it may hit some vital organs," Sgt. Werner said.
