Call It A Comeback: Dunkin' Donuts Store In Laguna Hills Marks Return To OC

CLARIFICATION: An earlier version of this story stated that the new Dunkin' Donuts store would be the first in Orange County. There were previously stores in Orange County up until the mid-1990s.

LAGUNA HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Dunkin' Donuts is back in Orange County.

A new store located at 25242 McIntyre Street in Laguna Hills opened its doors at 5 a.m. Wednesday, marking Dunkin' Donuts first foray into the O.C. since the mid-1990s, according to company officials.

Residents were treated to the full array of Dunkin' Donuts' iconic offerings, including fresh-brewed coffee and baked goods.

Through an online lottery, a winner was selected at random for "First-in-Line" and "First-in-Drive Thru" prizes. Both winners were rewarded with free coffee for one year.

The first 100 people who ordered at the new location also received a Dunkin' Donuts tote bag filled with special items. Guests were greeted by adored mascot, Cuppy, and offered free passed samples and special giveaways throughout the day.

The restaurant was part of Dunkin' Donuts' DD Green Achievement program, which aims to help franchisees build sustainable, energy-efficient restaurants. The new restaurant includes a variety of energy- and water-saving features, such as LED light fixtures, low-flow faucets and highly efficient heating and cooling systems.

The Laguna Hills franchise will be operated by Precision Hospitality & Development, owned by Brad Anderson and Joe Haupt. The franchise group has plans to develop 10 Dunkin' Donuts restaurants in South Orange County and the surrounding area over the coming years.
