LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A University of California, Berkeley freshman last seen at a fraternity party at USC early Saturday morning has been reported missing.
Eloi Vasquez, 19, who is also a member of the Bears’ men’s soccer team, left the party at the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity house on 28th Street at 1:30 a.m., saying he was going to the beach, according to his mother, Wendy Margolin. Vasquez called a friend in Berkeley at 2:18 a.m., and said he was in trouble, scared and lost, she said. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Vasquez did not have any money nor an identification card with him when he left the party.
Friends, family and police continued their search into Sunday evening, handing out fliers with Vasquez’s picture from the USC campus to nearby beaches.
Margolin drove through the night from San Rafael and told CBS2/KCAL9 she hopes to have a look at security video Monday.
“He’s such a great kid. So many people love him,” she said. “We’ve been here all day sending out fliers and hoping for the best.”
Margolin says she’s frustrated police have not been able to get cell phone records to show her son’s last location, however.READ MORE: LA County Sheriff's Employee Killed, Woman Hurt After Vintage Sports Car Careens Into Pole In Temple City
“That’s what we should’ve been doing these last few days – finding out where he was last,” she continued in part.
Margolin says her son would never do anything to harm himself and is a happy person. She says she has high hopes as many people are trying to find him.
Friends and family plan to pass out more flyers Monday.
Margolin says police have also reviewed security video around campus, but have not yet found anything.
Vasquez is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 175 pounds. He was last wearing a white T-shirt, gray pants and white tennis shoes.MORE NEWS: LA Officially Bids To Host Games For 2026 World Cup
