New, Green Low-Income Housing Complex Opens In Boyle Heights
BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — A new complex of brand new apartments for very low and low-income families celebrated its grand opening Thursday in Boyle Heights.
Sol y Luna Apartments, at 1st Street and Evergreen Avenue in Boyle Heights, boasts 51 units of affordable housing for families earning from 30% to 50% of the area median income. The site was once a bar and nightclub that attracted undesirable activity near an elementary school.
The development features two community rooms, a central landscaped courtyard, a tot lot, four laundry rooms and balconies on every unit. Sol y Luna apartments are also LEED Platinum certified and incorporates solar water heating and electric systems.
