Man Sought In Amber Alert Accused Of Attempted Murder Is In Custody
SAN DIEGO (CBSLA.com) — A 37-year-old Amber Alert suspect accused of stabbing a man several times was in custody Wednesday.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, Giovanny Santiago-Enriquez was caught around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, when he attempted to cross into the U.S. at the Otay Mesa border.
Santiago-Enriquez approached on foot and provided a driver's license along with a Social Security card to the Border Patrol officer on duty, authorities explained.
During a search of his name, law enforcement databases revealed an outstanding LAPD warrant for his arrest in an attempted murder.
Officials said they used fingerprints to confirm Santiago-Enriquez identity, and then confirmed the warrant for his arrest.
An Amber Alert was posted after Santiago-Enriquez entered his former girlfriend's home, stabbed her new boyfriend her new boyfriend several times and fled with his son from their home in Long Beach, police said.
Authorities explained he had primary custody of Jayden Nathaniel Santiago; however, Jayden was to remain in Mexico pending the completion of paperwork related to his custody.
According to Border Patrol officers, Santiago-Enriquez, a Mexican citizen and a legal U.S. resident, was paroled into the country.
He is being held on $1.34 million bail.
