Pasadena Man Charged With Murdering Sister, Wounding Nephew

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 30-year-old Pasadena man was charged Monday with murder, attempted murder and assault with a firearm in connection with shooting and killing his sister and wounding his nephew.

Johnny Goins, who was arrested Thursday night by Riverside County sheriff's deputies at a mall in Moreno Valley, was expected to be arraigned sometime Monday afternoon in Alhambra on the three felony charges.

The complaint also includes a sentence-enhancing allegation that Goins personally used a firearm, causing great bodily injury and death.

Goins is accused of going to his 32-year-old sister's apartment in the 5100 block of Rosemead Boulevard in San Gabriel on Thursday morning and shooting her, Deputy District Attorney Kevin Keeland said.

Tanya Goins' teenage son was also struck by gunfire, but his injuries were not life-threatening, according to the prosecutor, who plans to recommend that the defendant's bail be set at $3.05 million.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces up to 52 years to life in prison.
