Cal Poly Releases Statement On Campus Party Roof Collapse That Injured 7

SAN LUIS OBISPO (CBSLA.com) —  Seven students -- among hundreds -- at a pre St. Patrick's Day party at California Polytechnic State University were injured when the roof of a campus garage collapsed on them.

None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening but a local newspaper reported one student's leg was impaled by a piece of the roof.

On Saturday, Cal Poly issued the following statement:

"Fire and hospital officials have reported fewer than 10 total injuries. Most are minor, with two people sustaining moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.

We are working closely with fire and hospital officials to stay apprised of the conditions of those who were hurt. Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them a speedy recovery.

Cal Poly is also in close contact with local public safety agencies as they work to determine exactly what occurred. Their findings will help inform our own efforts to ascertain what led to this incident and decide how we will respond.

Parents and others with questions about the incident can call the university's Dean of Students' Office at 805-756-0327."
