LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Los Angeles Police Department officers said Wednesday that they chased a man with a gun on foot into an elementary school near Exposition Park.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and had the school surrounded, authorities said.

The man reportedly ran inside Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary at 3989 S. Hobart Blvd.

Stu Mundel in Sky2 reports some children were in the building.

Students were told to shelter in place.

Mundel said Western would be closed from King and 39th as the search continued.

It was unknown what the suspect was originally wanted for.
