RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Crews were working to repair a fire hydrant Saturday that flooded a Riverside neighborhood after being struck by a vehicle.

According to the Riverside Police Department, officers were sent to the 4800 block of Sierra Vista Avenue to assess the damage of flooding.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a silver Honda struck the hydrant. The impact created a geyser of water about 50 feet high, which rushed into resident’s yards.

Police explained the driver abandoned the vehicle, and took off on foot from the scene.

At this time, it remains unclear how many people have been affected in the area.

Officials have not estimated how long repairs will take.
