Ventura Hospital Employee Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Patient In Custody

VENTURA (CBSLA.com) — A 37-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a hospital patient remained in custody on Thursday.

According to the Ventura Police Department, Juan Pablo Valencia, of Ventura, was arrested in the 2600 block of North Ventura Avenue on Wednesday for sexual contact with a confined person, sexual penetration of a mentally disturbed person, and rape of a victim incapable of giving consent due to a mental disorder.

In October 2014, detectives explained they received a report of a sexual assault case that involved a staff member and patient at Vista Del Mar Hospital, located in the 800 block of Seneca Street.

Authorities went on to report the victim was admitted to the hospital in 2013, and was confined for psychiatric reasons.

Valencia is accused of pursuing the victim sexually while she was confined to the hospital, and immediately following her release from the institution.

Personnel records for Valencia, and medical records for the victim were obtained during the investigation, detectives added.

The investigation is ongoing, as detectives sought reports of any additional misconduct performed by Valencia.

He is currently being held at the Ventura County Jail.
