ROLLING HILLS (CBSLA.com) — After someone recently made off with a 200-pound Rudolph statue – a holiday staple for the Rolling Hills community – residents got together and built a new reindeer in time for Christmas.

Santa’s favorite reindeer made a return Sunday night atop a sign at Palos Verdes Drive North and Crenshaw Boulevard, much to the delight of people in the area. The entire neighborhood came out to watch his nose light up.

“They stole Rudolph, but they couldn’t steal our Christmas spirit,” resident Korry Taylor said.

So Korry, her husband Tim and the community decided to build a new Rudolph.

“We realized he wasn’t going to be brought back to us, so we bought some lumber, went in the garage and started working all night long,” Tim Taylor said.

The new Rudolph is just like the old one, except this time it comes with a chain-link necklace residents hope will keep the leader of Santa’s sleigh there to stay.

A very young member of the community, Henry Hule, told CBS2/KCAL9’s Bobby Kaple: “It was sad, but now it’s not sad, because he’s back. And it’s like Christmas is back.”
