BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — Thousands of kids and parents in Boyle Heights are in the spirit of the season.

The Hollenbeck Youth Center is rolling out its annual Miracle on 1st Street giveaway.

Final preparations were underway Saturday morning for the event as volunteers arrived and people lined up outside the door, some waiting all night long.

More than 9,000 toys were available at the event.

Children get to come in one-by-one and pick out the toy they want.

It’s the ultimate gift for some families, with many parents just as thankful as their children.

“I just want to say thank you to all the organizations who were able to come together to fund this event for our community,” Jeanette Montellano said.

“For me as a parent it’s a community event that’s good for our children.”

First Street will be closed Saturday morning for a holiday festival outside the venue.
