Wave Of Police Brutality Protests Expected At Hollywood And Highland

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Protests over police killings in Missouri and New York were expected Monday in Hollywood in what activists say could be the first in a series of demonstrations planned this week.

Members of the Stop Mass Incarceration Network were set to gather at 4 p.m. at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in response to the Friday night shooting death of an assault suspect near the same location, according to organizers.

The rally is the latest in a number of protests held in Southern California and across the nation following grand jury decisions not to indict police officers involved in the deaths of Mike Brown and Eric Garner.

Hundreds of protesters in an already scheduled march against police brutality staged a "die-in" protest Saturday at the iconic corner outside the Hollywood and Highland shopping complex, where officers fatally shot a man they say was armed with a knife a day earlier.

Witnesses reportedly told police the suspect was a white adult male who would routinely dress up as the character from the 1996 horror movie "Scream" and solicit tips for photos, according to reports.
