Sunday Showers Offer Preview Of Tuesday's Storm

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Showery weather affecting portions of the Southland on Sunday is a precursor of heavier rains expected in the region on Tuesday.

Heavy rain was reported in western Los Angeles County much of the late morning, according to City News Service, with about 1.4 inches of precipitation on the western edge of Malibu leading to a rock slide that closed Pacific Coast Highway and damaged wheels on vehicles traveling between the area and Ventura County.

There was hit-and-miss rain elsewhere in the region, with Winnetka, in the western San Fernando Valley, reporting 0.28 inch of rain by mid-afternoon. Unofficial total showed Santa Monica with 0.06 inch of rain and the Los Angeles Civic Center nearly dry.

Sunday's rain was only a teaser according to the National Weather Service, which still expects six to eight hours of intense rain at some point on Tuesday, with 1-2 inches possible closer to the coast and valley, and 2-5 inches in the foothills and mountains, while substantially less is forecast for inland areas.
