Police: Motorcyclist, 40, Dies While Speeding Away From Burbank Officer

BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — A 40-year-old motorcyclist reportedly was speeding away from a Burbank police officer when he collided with a fire hydrant and light pole. The man died from his injuries.

A patrol officer spotted the motorcyclist around 2:40 a.m. Saturday traveling at an excessive speed south on Buena Vista Street, Burbank Officer Joshua Kendrick said.

The officer turned on his overhead lights and tried to initiate a traffic stop. The motorcyclist reportedly sped away, crossing into opposing lanes of traffic before turning west onto Riverside Drive.

The officer did not give chase because of the erratic way the motorcyclist was driving, Kendrick said.

Moments later, the officer saw the same motorcyclist was lying on the street at the intersection of Riverside and Bob Hope drives, after apparently ramming into a fire hydrant and light pole.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene around 2:48 a.m., Kendrick said.

Police have not yet identified the subject.

They're asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them at (818) 238-3100.
