PACIFIC PALISADES (CBSLA.com) — A portion of the Pacific Coast Highway was shut down Friday while police investigated a suspicious package that was found.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the highway was closed just before 2:00 p.m. in both directions at Sunset Boulevard.

Officers explained traffic was diverted through the area, which backed up into the city of Malibu.

Police advised avoiding the area, as major delays were expected.
