Rash Of Burglaries In Huntington Beach Have Residents On Edge

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Nearly ten burglaries have been reported in the city of Huntington Beach within the past two months and residents are on edge.

Since September, detectives say it's likely the same individuals have entered homes through unlocked doors or windows.

The burglaries in north Huntington Beach have occurred in the middle of the day or early evening.

Karen Gallagher's home was the first house to be targeted in what police are calling a rash of burglaries in north Huntington Beach.

She recalls leaving her home around 6:15 p.m. on a hot September night but thought twice about leaving her front window open.

During the brief trip away, she says the suspects made off with jewelry and valuable family heirlooms.

Police believe the suspect or suspects are after jewelry.

"They are targeting the same thing, which is jewelry. They are leaving high-end items, such as TVs, electronics, iPads, cellphones, things of that nature," said Huntington Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Marlatt.

"If he hasn't been caught yet and he's doing this to my neighbors, it creeps me out to think he might do it to my house," Lexie Martinez, a neighbor, said.

Police have asked residents to be on alert and report any suspicious activity.
