POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Family, friends and community members took part in a prayer vigil Tuesday night for a SWAT officer killed last week in the line of duty.

Hundreds of mourners attended the vigil for officer Shaun Diamond, 45, who was shot last Tuesday morning while serving a search warrant. On Wednesday, the department announced he had died.

“My family, we feel the love, and we feel the support, and the law enforcement family is a family, and we are a part of it,” Diamond’s daughter said.

Among the community members in attendance were the chief of police and the mayor of Pomona.

Rene Freire, whose husband is also a police officer, took part in the vigil as well.

“When we say goodbye to our husbands and dads in the mornings, we always pray that they come home at night, safe to us,” Freire said.

Diamond was part of a 14-member, multiagency SWAT team.

The man accused of shooting him now faces a charge of capital murder.

Funeral services are set for Thursday.
