'Operation Safe Halloween' Targets LA County Child Sex Offenders

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Pomona man was found in bed with a 10-year-old girl and three sex offenders were arrested Friday after authorities raided dozens of homes across the Southland to ensure convicted child predators were complying with their probation, officials said.

Los Angeles County Department of Probation officers began conducting "compliance checks" at the homes of 66 sex offenders starting at around 6 a.m. as part of "Operation Safe Halloween", according to Carol Lin of the Los Angeles County Department of
Probation.

In a Pomona home, officers found a man in bed with a 10-year-old girl, Lin said. Authorities arrested him on outstanding warrants, and also arrested the girl's mother on suspicion of child endangering, Lin said.

A 32-year-old sex offender who was living in an adjacent bedroom at the residence was arrested for violation of his probation, Lin said.

The girl was placed into protective custody by the Department of Children and Family Services, Lin said.

The operation was aimed at uncovering violations such as possession of paraphernalia used to entice and lure children, including costumes, candy, Halloween decor, pornography, drugs, weapons, and the presence of children in the homes. spokesperson Carol Lin said.

Among the items confiscated were five computers, 13 USB memory sticks and memory cards, some marijuana and a methamphetamine pipe, Lin said.
