LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A basketball coach was free on $50,000 bail after he was arrested on suspicion of filming several adults in a bathroom at his home.

Michael Robert Miller, 50, was arrested on Oct. 27 on eight counts of illegally filming his basketball players and one count of sexual battery, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Miller was the sole proprietor of the Los Angeles College Preparatory Academy, which he operated out of his home.

On its website, the academy says it prepares student athletes for college sports, providing exposure to scouts and access to scholarships. On the website, there are photos of Miller at events with high-profile sports figures, including Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak and NBA legend Jerry West.

Miller’s home is right across the street from LA City College, where he once coached the now-defunct basketball team.

On Tuesday, KCAL9’s Kristine Lazar spoke with Tom Cano, a professor at the college who had worked with Miller for years.

“I knew him since he was coaching in high school,” said Cano, who was asked by Lazar if he had heard anything about inappropriate relationships. “Just heard a little hearsay here and there. But that’s about it.”

Miller was fired from LA City College. A former male co-worker accused Miller in a civil lawsuit of sending inappropriate text messages, but those allegations were thrown out of court.

“The investigation commenced after several of Miller’s players reported being secretly recorded on video in Miller’s residential bathroom,” police said.
