At Least 1 Man Due In Court In Killing Of 9-Year-Old Anaheim Girl

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — At least one man arrested in connection with the killing of a 9-year-old Anaheim girl was expected to appear in court Monday.

Ximena Meza was shot and killed Oct. 22 while she was playing with her sisters outside their apartment complex in the 2300 block of West Greenacre Avenue.

Police say two or more men were driving down Greenacre in a white vehicle when a gunman got out near where the girls were playing and opened fire. Investigators believe his intended target was a group a men gathered nearby who ran when the shooting began.

Meza, who moved with her family to the neighborhood just a few months ago, was struck once in the chest and was taken to a hospital, where she died a short time later, Anaheim police said.

Ricardo Cruz, 19, of Buena Park and Alfredo Miguel Aquino, 20, of Anaheim were arrested shortly after 11 p.m. Oct. 24.

The men, who were known gang members, were booked on suspicion of murder and were being held on $1 million bail each.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and there is a possibility more arrests may be made.

Anyone with information about the shooting or possible suspects was asked to contact the Anaheim Police Department.
