Injury Report: Updates On Brandon Flowers And Eddie Royal

By Dave Thomas

Riding a five-game winning streak, the San Diego Chargers look to keep the motor running this Sunday when they host the AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs.

Sitting at 5-1 atop the AFC West (Denver is 4-1, Kansas City 2-3), the Chargers  look to continue their recent dominance over the Chiefs (have won the last four meetings). Meantime, the Chiefs come into Sunday's game off their bye weekend, looking to climb back in the division race, having lost at Denver earlier this season.

Despite the recent tear by the Bolts, mounting injuries certainly have to be a concern.

In their hard-fought 31-28 victory in Oakland last weekend, the Bolts saw two more players (Eddie Royal and Brandon Flowers) go down with injuries. Royal has been having a solid season as one of the go-to guys for quarterback Philip Rivers, while Flowers (formerly with Kansas City) has helped lock down opposing wide receivers.

Chargers Running AFC West Gauntlet

Playing the second of three straight against division foes (at Denver Oct. 23), San Diego is predictably taking each game one step at a time.

Going into Oakland a touchdown favorite last weekend, the Chargers got the Raiders' best game of the season, escaping with a three-point lead. A four-point favorite against the Chiefs, San Diego can expect Kansas City to be fighting and clawing, too, come Sunday.

During halftime of Thursday night's Jets-Patriots game, Rivers was the guest interviewee on CBS.

The veteran QB noted that he and his teammates expect a tussle come Sunday when the Chiefs take the field. Having an MVP kind of season to date, Rivers said that the Chiefs and Chargers always put on a good show when they meet up, something most fans will be expecting yet again this weekend.

Heading into Sunday's meeting, San Diego is looking to put as many healthy bodies on the field as possible.

As of Thursday's practice, the Bolts were still dealing with injuries to a number of key players, among which include Royal (elbow) and Flowers (groin). Royal did complete a full practice, while Flowers was held out for the second straight day.

Also skipping practice due to injuries on Thursday was Jeremiah Attaochu, Donald Brown, Ryan Mathews, Rich Ohrnberger and Manti Te'o.
