PETA Ups Reward To $5,000 In Suspected Animal Sacrifice
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Southland animal rights activists Tuesday offered a $5,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest in the case of a possible animal sacrifice case.
Last Friday, police responded to a report of the corpses of a cat, four pigeons, a crow, and a seagull found in a circle formation on Sunset Boulevard near Rosemont Avenue in Los Angeles, according to People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
No arrests have been made so far in connection with the animal deaths, which may have involved Satanic or other types of ritualistic sacrifice, according to PETA Director Martin Mersereau.
A new report of a missing cat located in the same neighborhood may be linked to the killings, Mersereau said.
"At least seven animals have been found killed, meaning that all animals are in danger as long as the perpetrator is still at large," said Mersereau in a statement. "PETA is urging anyone with any information to come forward immediately, and we're cautioning all families to keep their animal companions indoors and in their sight at all times."
PETA offered an initial reward of $2,500 upon learning of the discovery last week. The group also contacted local and state law-enforcement officials and has confirmed that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will investigate this case, according to Mersereau.
