USC Running Back Quits Team After Calling Head Coach 'A Racist Man'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A University of Southern California senior running back quit the football team Thursday after calling head coach Steve Sarkisian a racist on social media.

Anthony Brown allegedly posted a picture on his Instagram account at 9:30 a.m. stating "COULDN'T PLAY FOR A RACIST MAN!!!!" adding the following as a caption:

"Sark treated like a slave in his Office...Can't play for a racist MAN!!!!!" #Fighton"

The post has since been deleted from his account.

Current and past players took to Twitter to stand up for Sarkisian.

Brown, a red shirt senior who attended Kaiser High School in Rialto, recently switched positions from cornerback to tailback during fall camp.

Brown's announcement comes just a day after his teammate and recently named team captain Josh Shaw was suspended indefinitely from all team activities after admitting he lied about how he sprained both of his ankles.

The Trojans are set to play their home opener Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against the Fresno State Bulldogs.
