5 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Football Players Charged With Armed Robbery

SAN LUIS OBISPO (AP) — Five students who play on Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's football team face charges for their alleged involvement in the armed robbery of a fraternity house.

San Luis Obispo County prosecutors charged the students Friday with multiple felony counts, including conspiracy to commit residential robbery, attempted residential robbery and false imprisonment.

Authorities allege that on August 10, 19-year-old Cameron Akins demanded money from a resident of the Delta Sigma Chi house. As one of the residents led Akins up a stairway of the house, police officers arrived and, with the help of fraternity members, subdued Akins and arrested him.

Police said Akins was the only suspect to brandish a handgun during the attempted robbery. However, the other defendants are charged in the case.

They're scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
