Boy Pulled From Motel Pool Alongside Mother, Sister Now Breathing On His Own

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — An 11-year-old boy who was not breathing and had no pulse when he was pulled from the pool of a Hollywood motel with his mother and sister two days ago is breathing on his own, police said.

Emergency responders were called to the Hollywood Premiere motel in the 5000 block of Hollywood Boulevard on Monday afternoon after a mother attempted to save her children from drowning, only to find herself struggling in the water, according to authorities. The boy, his 12-year-old sister and their mother, 36, were hospitalized in critical condition.

L.A. police officer Jane Kim said Wednesday that the boy's condition had improved, while his sister and mother remain on life support.

A LAPD spokesman previously told CBS2/KCAL9 the mother and four children were at the 7 1/2-foot-deep pool when two of the children wandered into the deep end and began to struggle.

"Although she couldn't swim, she attempted to save them and she too was quickly overcome," LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery said.

A good Samaritan who heard screaming jumped into the pool and was able to get all three out.

KCAL9/CBS2's Serene Branson previously reported the father of the children was across the street picking up lunch at the time of the incident.

Firefighters said no one in the family was a good swimmer.

The names of the victims have not been released.
