Los Angeles Participates In 8th Annual World Naked Bike Ride

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)   —  More than 300 naked people in Los Angeles took part in the 8th annual World Naked Bike Ride Saturday.

The event is held in cities all over the planet.

In Los Angeles, riders were asked to "Ride as bare as you dare." Some wore shorts or bikini tops or bottoms but a good number of people bared all.

The event is held to raise awareness for sustainable energy and for "responsible living, human-powered transport" as opposed to cars and buses.  Bikers and skateboarders, made up the majority of the participants.

Organizers say the event is legal in Los Angeles "as long as it is nude and not lewd."

KNX 1070's Megan Goldsby said the event was two things --  "incredibly friendly, and it's  also perfectly legal which not everyone knows."

Body painting is also a big part of the event, but not required.

Participants gathered near Union Station (the exact location is only revealed the day before the event, for security and safety reasons, say the planners) and rode around downtown for 15 miles, or about 2.5 hours.

Last year, more than 250 riders participated.
