Shuttle Service To Hollywood Sign Aimed At Easing Local Traffic

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — City officials have announced plans to help open up a traffic bottleneck near one of the most popular tourist destinations in Los Angeles.

Starting next month, the Department of Recreation and Parks and the Griffith Observatory will offer shuttle services for $7 to a lofty viewing area of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory, according to officials.

The promotional launch will provide shuttles every Saturday and Sunday, starting on May 3 through the end of July. Children 2 years of age and under can ride for free when riding on the lap of an adult.

Riders will be picked up from the Greek Theatre parking lot and be able to relax in a comfortable 21-passenger shuttle as they make their way to the Hollywood Sign Viewing Area and Griffith Observatory located off Mount Hollywood Drive.

Ticket prices also include free admission to the Observatory, in addition to a panoramic view of the Hollywood Sign, the L.A. city skyline, scenic mountain views, and access to some of the city's most premier hiking trails, officials said.

Recreation and Parks GM Michael Shull said the purpose of the shuttle program is to assist in alleviating a high volume of vehicle traffic in both the Hollywood Hills and Beachwood Canyon residential areas, as well as servicing the needs of tourists and other sightseers.

"It is a program we are excited and proud to announce, and feel it will benefit both the surrounding communities as well as locals and tourists who wish to visit these historic landmarks," Shull said.
