(TiqIQ/CBS) – The new ownership group of the Los Angeles Dodgers has made the team the most expensive in the league. Their projected payroll of $235 million surpasses every other team in baseball. That spending led to a playoff berth and a National League Championship Series appearance, and two wins away from making the World Series. Despite all that, the Dodgers still remain one of the cheaper home tickets on average at $61.68. There are a few outliers, and below are the top five priced series on the Dodgers schedule.
5/8 – 5/11 San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers | Avg. Price: $114.87
The San Francisco Giants and Dodgers have quite the rivalry and Giants vs Dodgers tickets reflect that. The four game series in May is 82% above the home ticket average. The Giants have won two World Series titles since 2010 and are the biggest threat to the Dodgers for the NL West crown. These two teams already played the opening series at Dodger Stadium this season with the Giants winning two out of the three games.
9/26 – 9/28 Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers | Avg. Price: $111.82
Colorado has two of the best players in baseball in Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez. If the duo could just stay healthy the Rockies may be a wild card contender, and it could explain why ticket prices for this series are 78% above the home average for the Dodgers. One reason for the high price between these two teams is this will be the final regular season game in Los Angeles.
8/4 – 8/5 Los Angeles Angels vs. Los Angeles Dodgers | Avg. Price: $90.56
The price of tickets to see these crosstown rivals for a four game home-and-home series in August will be 44% above the home average for the Dodgers. Four total games will be played from August 4 to August 7, the first two played at Dodger Stadium and the second two played at Angel Stadium.
8/1 – 8/3 Chicago Cubs vs. Los Angeles Dodgers | Avg. Price: $81.67
These two teams aren’t expected to be close in the standings when this series starts on August 1, but two of the most recognized franchises in baseball playing a weekend series will be popular regardless. This will be Chicago’s only trip to Los Angeles of the season.
7/29 – 7/31 Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers | Avg. Price: $78.03
The Braves and Dodgers met last year in the NLDS with the Dodgers emerging victorious in four games. The two teams once again figure to be top contenders in the National League at the end of the season. Their series from July 29-31 will be 24% higher than the average home game for the Dodgers.
Throughout the season, the Dodgers figure to be one of the top teams in the National League. With that level of play, even ticket prices for the most expensive series of the season aren’t too expensive compared to other top series around the league. For ticket prices, the Dodgers remain one of the best values in baseball.
