Family, Friends Plead With Public To Help Find Who Fatally Shot Beloved Father In Lancaster

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — Family and friends are pleading with the public to help find the person who shot and killed a beloved father in Lancaster.

Stephen Finson, 48, rode off on his all-terrain motorcycle to watch the sunset on Sunday afternoon. When he didn't come home, his family grew worried.

The next morning, officers found Finson's body in the desert near 135th Street and Avenue H East. They initially thought he'd been killed in an accident, but when the coroner arrived, detectives learned he was shot.

"We're asking you, deeply, that if you know anything, just come forward. We're waiting," the victim's son, Devin, said.

The family said the Navy vet, arborist, baseball coach, and father of two was a generous soul, a coach who dug into his own pocket when kids couldn't afford league fees.

"He taught me and my sister and everyone around him such strong values and made everyone around him a better person. He really, truly did," Devin said.

Finson's childhood friend, Daniel Gallagher, said anyone who can take a life this meaningful should not go free.

"A guy that gave so much for so many shouldn't be a victim. And this is wrong," he said.
