Drama Teacher, 47, Arrested On Suspicion Of Sex Assault

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A high school drama teacher was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a minor, authorities said.

Peter Christopher Gomez of La Habra was taken into custody about 4:30 p.m. in the city of Bell, Los Angeles police said in a department statement. His bail was set at $950,000.00.

The statement says the alleged sexual assaults occurred in 1999 when Gomez worked at Benjamin Franklin High School in Highland Park.

Authorities said Gomez, 47, has been with the LAUSD since 1996. Since 2005, he has worked at Bell Senior High School as a history and drama teacher.

"We are cooperating with the Los Angeles Police Department," Superintendent John Deasy said. "The teacher will not be allowed near students prior to the conclusion of the investigation, and resolution of charges."

Meanwhile, police asked for the public's help in locating additional alleged victims.

Anyone with more information was asked to call detectives Lina Teague or Michelle Gomez at Northeast Division, Sexual Assault Detail at (323) 344-5742.
