Investigators Look Into Medical Building Codes After Patient Leaps From Roof
BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Cellphone images circulated Wednesday of a 53-year-old woman who leaped from the roof of the Camden Medical Arts building in Beverly Hills.
The woman, who later died from her injuries, was partially clothed, despondent and was not communicating with a negotiation team that had arrived on the scene, according to Beverly Hills Police Lt. Lincoln Hoshino.
The woman had undergone a medical procedure on Tuesday night, according to Hoshino, and had stayed the night at the medical center.
As police look for answers, an anesthesiologist told CBS2/KCAL9's Rachel Kim that adverse effects can sometimes occur from anesthesia and other sedatives, including post-anesthetic psychosis.
However, the primary focus for investigators is to learn how the woman was able to access the rooftop so easily.
Investigators are not releasing any information on the woman's possible preexisting medical conditions, nor any details on the procedure she had undergone the night before.
A number of highly profiled plastic surgeons and doctors are reportedly being interviewed by detectives.
An oncological and toxicological examination is scheduled for the victim at the coroner's office later in the week.
