Long Beach Couple Tied Up With Electrical Cords, Pistol Whipped

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A couple was tied up with electrical cords and pistol-whipped in their home Wednesday by a pair of home-invasion robbers who remain at large.

Witnesses say they heard a struggle coming from a home near the corner of Shadypark Drive and Pageantry Street in Long Beach at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

One neighbor, who did not want to be identified, described what she saw in a shaky voice.

"My neighbor was on the ground. And somebody was fighting with him and I screamed, 'hey!'" the neighbor said. "And the perpetrator went running into the car."

Neighbors said they saw two young men running away from the home to a car around the corner, where a young woman was waiting for them in the driver's seat.

Neighbors say both the husband and wife who lived in the home were beaten. The wife, who had been tied up, was able to crawl to the front door.

"The wife was bound. Her hands were tied with electrical cords, looked like the Christmas tree lights, and her feet were also tied with electrical cords," the unidentified neighbor said. "And her husband was pistol whipped and blood was dripping from every angle of his body."

The couple said they didn't know the robbers, who were armed with guns, according to the neighbors. Wednesday's attack comes on the heels of another recent robbery.

"They had a burglary before," neighbor Robert Drimel said. "Jon was just out for a couple of hours and that's when it happened."

A neighbor who tried to chase down the car was not able to take down the license plate number, but described it as a late model silver four-door Toyota Corolla with damage to the rear.
