Man Detained At LAX After Brandishing Gun Outside Terminal 3

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man is in custody after he brandished an unloaded gun to a limo driver outside Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday night, one week after a deadly shooting at the terminal.

Police said the man was 27 years old and was from San Jose, but they would not release his name. He took an unloaded handgun out of his checked bag after  picking up his luggage, Los Angeles Airport Police Sgt. Karla Ortiz said.

CBS2's Suraya Fadel reported that the man showed the gun to the driver, who then alerted TSA officers. The incident happened downstairs near the baggage claim area.

Fadel said no flights were delayed or canceled because of the incident.

The weapon was described as a small handgun. Fadel said the gun had been cleared with the airline when he checked in.  It was recovered by police, Ortiz said.

Ortiz said she did not know where the suspect boarded his flight, which was on Virgin.
