Suspect 'Foaming At The Mouth' Fatally Shot By Deputies In Bellflower

BELLFLOWER (CBSLA.com) — Sheriff's deputies say they shot and killed a man overnight in Bellflower.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says in a statement that Lakewood Station deputies were dispatched to the 16400 block of Woodruff Avenue just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday following a disturbance call at a business.

Upon arriving on scene, deputies say they were confronted by a 57-year-old man, who was "incoherent" and "foaming at the mouth."

The statement said that a fight ensued in which case one of the deputies was punched in the head and the other was pushed into a water fountain.

Deputies say they attempted to subdue the suspect with a TASER but it had no effect.

"At some point during the fight, the suspect reached for one of the deputy's holstered firearm. Fearing for their safety and the safety of those around them, the other deputy shot the suspect," according to the statement.

An investigation is ongoing.
