Galaxy Returning To MLS Cup Playoffs For 5th Consecutive Season

CARSON (CBSLA.com) — The LA Galaxy will be returning to the MLS Cup Playoffs for the fifth consecutive season.

The club, whose 0-0 draw against the San Jose Earthquakes at StubHub Center on Sunday night clinched the berth, will be appearing in the playoffs for an MLS record 15th time in Galaxy's history.

The team is guaranteed to finish no lower than fifth place in the Western Conference.

The Galaxy's 15-11-7 record, with 52 points, has placed the club in their current position of third place in the conference, behind Real Salt Lake in second with 53 points, and Portland in first with 54 points. Colorado and Seattle are currently tied for fourth place, with each club earning 51 points.

Portland, Real Salt Lake and Seattle have all clinched playoff berths. The fifth playoff spot will be taken by either Colorado or San Jose. Chivas USA, Vancouver and FC Dallas have all been eliminated from playoff contention.

The Galaxy will play their final game of the regular season on Sunday, October 27 against Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field, after playing their final group stage game in the CONCACAF Champions League on Thursday, October 24 in El Salvador against Isidro Metapan.

The 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs schedule will be announced following the conclusion of the regular season on Sunday, October 27.
