ORANGE ( — Police called off an investigation into an attempted abduction of a 7-year-old boy after the report was found to be a hoax, authorities said Tuesday.

The incident was initially reported to have occurred around 6:10 p.m. Monday in an industrial park the 800 block of North Battavia Street in Orange, authorities said.

A 7-year-old boy said he was grabbed while he was riding his bike in an alley in the 800 block of North Battavia Street, police said.

The child claimed he had wiggled free and ran away.

Police now say the child fabricated the entire report.
