The violent crash near Malibu Canyon forced the closure of the roadway in both directions between Corral Canyon and Puerco Canyon.

Reporting from the scene, KCAL9's Juan Fernandez said police are looking for a pickup truck. Officials didn't have a description of the truck other than to say it likely has front end damage.

The accident was reported around 8:30 p.m.

One of the pedestrians, a 54-year-old woman, was being transported to an area hospital by ambulance. The second patient, believed to be a 4-year-old boy, was airlifted.

"Both were conscious and talking to paramedics," according to Sky9's Stu Mundel.

An investigation was under way.
