Torrance Detectives Release Sketch Of Bat-Wielding Cat Burglar

TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — Police released a sketch Wednesday of a bat-wielding residential cat burglar who targeted a South Bay home.

The burglary took place around 1:15 a.m. in the 1300 block of Beech Avenue in Torrance, detectives said.

A 70-year-old man was asleep inside his home when he awoke to find a light on and personal property stacked in his hallway.

"The victim observed a male subject standing inside his residence carrying a baseball bat that belonged to the victim," Sgt. Robert Watt said. "A struggle for the bat ensued and after the victim was able to wrestle it out of the suspect's hands, the suspect fled out the front door and began running eastbound on Beech Avenue."

The burglar was described as a possible teenager, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with short brown hair. He was clean shaven at the time of the burglary and was wearing a teal shirt and shorts, Watt said.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Torrance Police Department at (310) 618-5581.
