Victim Killed In Alleged Road Rage Incident In Arleta Identified
ARLETA (CBSLA.com) — A man who was fatally shot in an alleged road rage incident in Arleta has been identified, authorities said Monday.
Richard Eduardo Ruiz, 22, of North Hollywood, was killed in a car-to-car shooting that occurred just after 3 p.m. Saturday on Branford Avenue under the Golden State (5) Freeway, police said.
The driver of a late-model gray Dodge Challenger allegedly shot at a red Kia, occupied by Ruiz and two other passengers.
"(Ruiz and his passengers were) joking or laughing in their own car. It was mistaken by this person or taken as an affront to him. And, for some reason, he tried to take retribution on them for that," said Lt. Paul Vernon of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim's passengers were uninjured and described the shooter as a Hispanic man with distinctive green eyes.
Police continue to search for the suspect.
